CHARACTER PROFILES

Detective Delia Peabody: She started out as Eve’s temporary personal aide and was promoted to Detective and Eve’s partner. Peabody is Eve’s opposite; she’s feminine, knows how to play well with others, and can usually lighten Eve’s mood with her lively sense of humor.

Summerset: Summerset is Roarke’s live-in butler. As a young boy, Roarke met Summerset and his daughter when they ran some cons together in Dublin. He also saved Roarke’s life after a severe beating and took him in shortly after Roarke’s father was killed. Summerset and Eve don’t quite see eye-to-eye, and trade verbal barbs, but he has come to accept that she loves Roarke wholeheartedly and is an emotional rock for him.

Mavis Freestone: Mavis is a trendy, petite ball of energy, always changing her hair color and style. She wears flashy clothes and has a heart of gold. Originally, Eve arrested Mavis as a con artist but eventually the two became close and Mavis is Eve’s best (and only) friend. Mavis became a talented and popular recording star thanks to Roarke, who sent her demo tape to one of his recording companies.

Detective Ian McNabb: McNabb has long blond hair, and is a flashy, colorful dresser. He works in the EDD (Electronics Detection Division) of the NYPSD.

Captain Ryan Feeney: Feeney is currently Head of the EDD (Electronics Detection Division) but was Eve’s former partner and the man who trained her to be a cop. He is like a father to Eve, although they had a difference of opinion in one particular case that strained their relationship for a time. Eve owes much of her persona as a cop to Feeney.

Dr. Charlotte Mira: Mira is the top criminal profiler in the force and resident therapist. She has helped Eve open up about her past. Eve hasn’t admitted that she thinks of her as a mother figure, but Mira knows anyway and thinks of Eve as a daughter—even though she has her own family with grown children and grandchildren.

Galahad: He is the well-fed adopted cat that lives with Eve and Roarke, her “knight in shining armor” who was named after he distracted a killer. He has dual-colored eyes and comforts Eve when she needs it most, but can’t admit it.

Candy Thief: The Thief is a member of the NYPSD and constantly finds and steals Eve’s well-hidden chocolate. Suspects abound, but no ID.

#1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb presents an intense and terrifying new case for New York homicide cop Eve Dallas, one that will take her all the way to the city that gave her her name—and plunge her into the nightmares of her childhood.

When a monster named Isaac McQueen—who was taken down by Eve back in her uniform days—escapes from Rikers, he has two things in mind. One is to pick up where he left off, abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. The other is to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago.
